Collateral

I want to do a good action movie tonight. Collateral is my favorite action, thriller movie. I could watch this movie 1,000 times and have probably come close. It's that good.

It is a Michael Mann movie (Heat, Last of the Mohicans). The cast includes Tom Cruise, Jamie Foxx, Jada Pinkett Smith, Mark Ruffalo, and Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men). I don't normally enjoy Tom Cruise's more current work, but this movie was an exception. He did a great job convincing you that he is a hard core killer. This is going to sound stupid but this movie is amazing because in the characters actually reload in the middle of gun battles. They did a great job trying to be authentic and that goes a long way in my book. There is nothing more that I hate than a gun battle between two guys with pistols shooting at each other 100 times a piece without reloading (Face Off).

The movie is about a cab driver, Max (Jamie Foxx) who picks up a fare, Annie (Jada Pinkett Smith) and they really hit it off. After Max drops Annie off (turns out Annie is a prosecutor) he picks up another fare, Vincent (Tom Cruise). Max takes Vincent to his destination and Vincent pays Max to wait outside while Vincent hurriedly takes care of some business. As Max waits a man suddenly falls on his cab. Vincent is blown (as he killed the guy) and forces Max to continue as his driver. Vincent has 4 more hits before he plans on killing Max and skipping town. One of his hits is Annie. Annie is prosecuting the drug lord who hired Vincent to kill her and the other major witnesses in his trial. Max heroically does everything he can to stop Vincent but it isn't very easy.

If you are looking for a good action movie with tons of realistic fighting and killing of bad guys with a hot chick (Jada Pinkett Smith is something else, you know?!?) then I recommend this movie. I can't praise it enough. You need to check it out to see how awesome this movie really is.

Javier Bardem makes me think I should do a Coen Brother's Week. That would be cool, but intimidating. I don't want to do them or their movies any injustice since they are both the coolest. I'll think about it.
Michael Mann's newest project is a movie titled Public Enemies that is going to be released in July. It stars Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. It looks like it is going to be awesome. I am going to put Public Enemies on my to watch list.
