Tonight I watched Get Smart. It is funny but completely ridiculous. It is one of those movies that you have to take at face value. You have to enjoy it for entertainment purposes ONLY! It was funny because I kept catching myself saying, "yeah right", "whatever", "like that would happen", etc. It was funny though and the movie tried to keep the spirit of the original Get Smart franchise.
The movie was directed by Peter Segal. The cast included Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Alan Arkin, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Bill Murray (in a small role).
I am not going to give a detailed synopsis. Chaos has nuclear weapons and threatens to blow up the world unless paid. Control tries to stop them. Max Smart (Steve Carell) falls for Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway) in the process. Agent 23 (Dwayne Johnson) has some tricks up his sleeve and turns sour on everyone. And the whole motley crew is supervised by the Chief (Alan Arkin). Oh, and, the good guys win and the bad guys lose.
I don't know how hardily I would recommend this movie. If you are looking for slapstick humor mixed in with action this is the movie for you. If you are looking for something serious or even plausible this is not the movie for you. If it is late for you and you want something silly (like UHF at 3:00 AM) this is DEFINITELY the movie for you. So, pick your poison.
I enjoyed this cartoonish version of intelligence agencies...a little CIA mixed with Wile E Coyote, yeah?
